About Suzlon Wind for Wings

Wind for Wings is a Suzlon CSR initiative dedicated to protecting house sparrows and restoring urban and rural biodiversity through community-driven conservation efforts.

Our Mission

To protect and restore nature by engaging communities in simple, scalable actions that support biodiversity, encourage community stewardship, and integrate conservation into everyday actions

Our Vision

A future where nature thrives alongside communities, with healthy ecosystems and rich biodiversity forming the foundation of everyday life

Message from Suzlon CSR Head

At Suzlon, we believe that meaningful change often begins with small, thoughtful actions. Sparrows are an important indicator of a healthy environment, and their decline reminds us of the urgent need to act.

Through Suzlon Sparrow Nestathon 2026, we invite each of you to be part of a simple yet powerful effort, creating safe spaces for sparrows to return, thrive and belong.

By installing a nest, spreading awareness, or inspiring others to participate, every small step helps restore ecological balance and create a lasting impact for future generations.

The
Urban
Paradox

As our skylines rise, our biodiversity falls. The concrete jungle is pushing out its oldest residents.

01. The Challenge

Habitat Loss

Rapid urbanization has replaced native vegetation with concrete. Modern architecture lacks the nooks and crannies that sparrows have used for nesting for centuries.

  • Loss of nesting cavities
  • Pesticide overuse killing insect food
  • Electromagnetic radiation concerns
Community Action
02. The Solution

Collective Action

We are installing nest boxes, encouraging others to create sparrow nest boxes, provide food and water for sparrows and creating insect-friendly gardens/ farms. Every balcony, rooftop, garden and farm can become a sanctuary.

03. The Impact

A Silent Spring

The House Sparrow is an indicator species. Their disappearance is a warning sign of a degrading urban environment that will eventually affect human health. We are committed to preventing this.

"When the bird song stops, we know we have lost something vital in our connection to nature."

Sparrow Guardian Support & FAQs

Everything you need to know to become a Sparrow Guardian.

Placement & Environment

Install it in a quiet, shaded spot at least 8 to 12 feet above the ground, away from direct sunlight and out of reach of predators like cats.
You can still hang a nest box or feeder on your balcony. Ensure it is securely fastened and shielded from high winds and heavy rain.
Not always. It can take a few weeks or even a season for birds to feel safe enough to occupy a new box. Patience is key.

Feeding & Care

Provide small grains like millets, broken rice, or birdseed. Avoid processed foods, salty snacks, or bread, as these are harmful.
Yes. Place a shallow clay bowl of clean water nearby for drinking and bathing. Change the water daily to prevent mosquito breeding.
Clean it using only dry cloth. Avoid soaps or chemical cleaners.

Protection & Safety

Ensure the nest box entrance is small (approx. 32mm) to prevent larger birds like mynas or crows from entering. Keep the area clear of hiding spots for cats.
No. Pesticides kill the insects that sparrow chicks need to survive. Transition to organic gardening to provide a natural food source.
Sparrows are non-migratory and may use the nest for roosting in winter, though they primarily use it for raising 2–3 broods during the breeding season.
